LGBTQ+ History Month
The Origins of LGBTQ+ History Month
LGBTQ+ History Month started when Rodney Wilson decided he wanted to be inclusive with his curriculum and educate his students about the legacy of the LGBT community in 1994. This month was chosen because of the second march on Washington for Gay and Lesbian rights, which was later celebrated as National Coming Out Day on October 11. Join us at NC State as we celebrate our LGBTQIAP+ community.

PrideFest: LGBTQ+ History Month Kickoff
In recognition of National Coming Out Day and LGBTQ+ History Month, campus partners from across NC State will host the third annual PrideFest (previously known as “Pride Walk”) on Tuesday, October 8 at Stafford Commons starting with a parade at 2 p.m.
What is PrideFest?
PrideFest is an annual celebration of the NC State LGBTQ+ community and all are welcome! Each year, the LGBTQ Pride Center unites colleges and departments across campus to show our Pack Pride. Join us for an afternoon of belonging and festivities as we recognize and honor the valuable contributions of LGBTQ+ members of our Wolfpack and their allies.
How can I get involved?
PrideFest will kick off at Stafford Commons with a parade at 2 p.m. featuring campus partners and representatives from the marching band. Parade attendees will then follow an ADA-accessible route throughout NC State’s main campus passing several Rally and Refresh Points along the way. Attendees will be welcomed back to Stafford Commons with a Lawn Party featuring food, games, and community resources from across campus to conclude the event.
